A Wedding Tradition Explained!
The
Wedding Purse.
One origin of wedding purses is
the Italian custom of "Buste". The Bride carries"la Borsa", a satin
bag into which guests place envelopes of money to help pay for the customarily
lavish Italian weddings. Sometimes the bag is guarded by the bride's
grandmother during the reception. Otherwise The Bride could also wear
it and allow male guests to put money in it in exchange for a dance
with her.
In England and Scotland similar purses ar referred to as "Dolly Bags"
or "Dorothy Bags" were carried by the bridesmaids to carry the confetti
in. The modern use of the dolly bag or wedding purse in the USA, is
primarily as a convenience wedding accessory for carrying the Bride's
or bridesmaids personal effects.

Kim's Wedding Tips!
We recently tied those knots and
have tips, tricks and trials to share:
Carrying stuff around...
Kim's Tip: If you decide to go
with a wedding purse then make it light weight as you are supposed to
carry it around all day. Do not go hauling around a bunch of stuff you
don't need. Other than your lipstick and tissues, you really don't need
much else on your person. If you are planning on doing the dollar dance
then a bridal purse is a must, as the alternate tradition has the men
pinning money to your dress! When picking a wedding purse for such a
purpose make sure that in addition to matching your dress, it opens
and closes easily!

Dance Tip
"Gentlemen, Step Directly Into
Your Partner!"
When trying to dance with the woman he loves, many untrained men will
do one of two things: either shuffle from side to side in a circular
manner or try sneaking the foot underneath the woman trying to avoid
her feet.
For Grooms: You must move forward decisively. To the woman, following
you means being PUSHED backwards. One of the biggest truths in dancing
is that you are ten times more likely to step on a woman's foot if you
try to avoid her. When moving forward, take your normal size stride
straight forward. Yes, her foot is there now but it won't be because
you will have moved her out of the way. Look at the groom in the picture.
See how he is confidently stepping into the bride. This makes him very
easy to follow.
For Brides: In Wedding Ezine Feb 1-15,
we talked about how frame and posture help you follow your groom's lead.
In addition, as your groom moves decisively forward into you, you must
move straight back. When dancing. brides often tend to move slightly
to the side in a misguided attempt not to get stepped on by the groom.
The farthest distance between his feet and yours will always be achieved
by going straight back.
