A Wedding Tradition Explained!
"Why Is White Lace So Popular In Bridal Attire?"
The wearing of bridal veils goes all the way back to Roman times. White
lace veils actually came into vogue in the United States in the late
1700s. Nelly Curtis was engaged to Major Lawrence Lewis, an aid to George
Washington's. The story goes that Major Lewis was on his way to see
Nelly. He happened to look up at her house and caught a glimpse of his
bride to be standing at the window, behind the lace curtains. Major
Lewis commented to her how beautiful she had appeared behind the filmy
drapes. She then and there decided to wear a lace veil for their ceremony!
Royal and High Society weddings have always set the fashion for weddings
for the rest of us. After their White House wedding, white lace veils
became a fashion trend and over time a tradition in the U.S.

Kim's Wedding Tips!
When selecting your veil and dress try to buy them at the same place
if possible. If you do not, get a fabric swatch of whichever you buy
first. I have been told there are about 16 shades of white. You don't
want a white white dress with an off white veil. I was unable to find
an exact match to my dress in the off the rack veils because I wore
my grandmother's wedding gown. The solution for me was to have the veil
made to order from the shop that did my alterations. Many bridal shops
make their own head pieces and veils. I found that it only cost about
$10 more to have it customized exactly how I wanted it.

Kim's Wedding Dance Tip "Shorter
Veils Are Easier On The Groom!"
If your Bridal Veil trails behind you on the floor you will have to
hold it or risk both of you stepping on it. Grooms also need to be able
to get their right hands onto the Brides' backs in order to lead properly.
When you are wearing a long full length veil this can be a challenge.
I suggest either removing the veil for the First Dance or wearing a
detachable veil. Many veils today have the 2 length option - the long
veil which will look so beautiful flowing behind you as you walk down
the aisle and add drama to the formal pictures can be made detachable
with a shorter veil underneath giving you more freedom of movement during
the reception. Check out the photo of our students to the left. See
how easy it is for Tim to get his hand on Molly's back with the shorter
veil. It allows him to move confidently from move into another, easily
repositioning his hand after the underarm spins and removes any worry
about pulling on her veil.
