A Wedding Tradition Explained!
"What Color To Wear?"
Before the 1900's Brides rarely bought a special dress just to get married
in. Usually their "Wedding Dress" was simply their best outfit.
My great grandmother actually got married in purple! Green was generally
avoided (implied loose morals). Royals before Queen Victoria traditionally
married in Silver. She started the white wedding dress trend that still
goes on today. White is supposed to ward off evil spirits and symbolize
purity and virginity. In the Orient, Red is color most associated with
weddings because it is thought to be lucky. There is an old children's
rhyme that highlights many of the bridal attire superstitions regarding
color:
Married in White, you have chosen right
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Blue, you will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Brown, you will live in the town,
Married in Pink, you spirit will sink.

Kim's Wedding Tips!
Wedding dresses with color are becoming more popular. Try them on! Pale
golds, silvers and pinks are quite striking. Often times women are afraid
to try on some of these dresses thinking that they are "too much".
In the long run they may be, but you will never know unless you try!
I am a firm believer that you should try on lots and lots of dresses.
If you try on enough you will find the perfect dress. In fact, try on
everything that the sales clerk suggests that are within your price
range. They are familiar with the wedding gowns and will often know
which dresses are cut to flatter your figure. Bring a good friend with
you as a reality check and plan out a lot of time so you can enjoy the
experience.

Kim's Wedding Dance Tip "Up
Tempo Music Is Easier To Dance To!"
In previous generations people often went dancing together. It was one
of the common ways to meet prospective partners. As a result many of
them had a "song". Today many couples do not have their own
"special song" and must pick one. Pick a song that you love
wherein the lyrics sound like you. If you are picking a song to dance
to, Up Tempo is always better! Dancing slowly requires
more control than moving at a faster pace. Foxtrot songs tend to be
easy to hear the beat in, and have an easy walking, strolling kind of
gait. If you really love the slow ballads like "At Last" by
Etta James or True Companion by Marc Cohen then you should dance to
it. On the other hand, if you don't have a song you're in love with,
pick one that will be easy on your man! Check out Foxtrots on our Song
Suggestion list page!
