A Wedding Tradition Explained!
"Red - The Color Of Love"
Throughout Asia the color red symbolizes prosperity, love, joy and good
luck and therefore is often featured heavily in the wedding themes of
Chinese and Japanese weddings and receptions. The traditional Chinese
bridal gown is often red. The red theme can be carried over to the wedding
invitations and wedding favor gift boxes or envelopes for cash gifts.
Sometimes even the bridal couple's homes are decorated in red on the
wedding day. In more traditional Japanese weddings the bride-to-be wears
a white kimono but for the wedding reception, she changes into a red
kimono and again later into a western-style gown. Symbolic of wealth
and happiness in Japan, red and gold are prefered colors. The invitations
sent to the guest are frequently wrapped in red gift-wrap. Any gifts
of money to the newlyweds in both cultures are presented in red envelopes
for the same reason. Even in the western world red remains the color
of passion and true love since Victorian times.

Kim's Wedding Tips!
1) Red is a color that makes a big statement. At the last Asian wedding
I went to, the flowers were red as were the napkins which were adorned
with black laquered chopsticks which did double duty as ornamentation
and wedding favors. The mixing of white, black and red gave the whole
atmosphere a very clean lovely zen feeling which was tradition and modern
at the same time.
2) With any theme it is better to have artful touches than to go whole
hog! To much of anything is not a good thing. All colors stand out against
white so it is a good Idea to use that as a back drop. This will allow
you to use the standard white linens (saving money in the process)and
people will notice the special touches more easily.

Kim's Wedding Dance Tip "The Secret of a Flawless Underarm Turn!"
Some women worry about dancing in their up do. If your groom or perhaps
another family member likes to spin you on the dance floor, try to stay
close to him and to turn underneath your own arm rather than his. Many
women make the mistake of trying to turn underneath the arm of the man
which forces them to duck. There is no elegant or graceful way to duck!
We find that women also try to put too much space between themselves
and the gentlemen they are dancing with. These two actions will not
only make the turns ugly but will also make you more likely to damage
your updo. Notice our student on the left. She doesn't have a big veil
to worry about, but look at how much space she has in her underarm turn.
She has plenty of room for an updo as well as a tiara! This is because
she is close to her husband and is turning under her own arm rather
than under his. Her head is also up, which is crucial for looking wonderful
dancing on your wedding day.
